Eclectic Cool: global design in Hong Kong

Friday 12 October 2012

New retail brand Eclectic Cool aims to bring the best of international contemporary design to Hong Kong. Operating both a physical showroom and an online shop, the brand differentiates itself with an accessible range of price points and a product offer specially selected to cater to Hong Kong lifestyles.

International brands sold in-store include Gubi, Emma Bridgewater, Normann Copenhagen, Muuto, and Armadillo, and deliveries are made through Hong Kong on a daily basis, so that customers experience a much shorter waiting time than is usual in the region. Prices range from HK$100 - 40,000, and the site also offers a range of vintage and antique pieces sourced from around the world.

Owner Joanne Pereiro, originally from Sydney but resident in Hong Kong since 2007, compares the store to "a fabulous overseas shopping trip – wonderful souvenirs from Istanbul, Paris, London and Sydney without the hassle of jetlag or the worry of how you’ll get it home.” Eclectic Cool's studio store opened in Ap Lei Chau last month.

Pereiro is also the editor of one of Hong Kong's most popular design blogs of the same name. Subscribers can read more about blogs crossing over into retail here; and about magazines expanding into retail here.
