1960s UFO in Paris flea market

The Futuro House at Marché Dauphine
The youngest of Paris' Saint-Ouen flea markets, the Marché Dauphine, is refreshing itself with creativity and humour: a large UFO called the Futuro house will be erected under the market's classic Eiffel-like glass roof.

Made of fibreglass, it was designed by Finnish architect Matti Suuronen in 1968 and epitomises the utopian architectural design of the 1960s, when advances in techniques fired the inventiveness of creators.

The Marché Dauphine offers everything from vintage fashion and books to rare photographs, vinyl and period hifi equipment. In-house antique dealers and specialised galleries showing 20th century decorative arts are set up next to skilled artisans including framers and gold-leafers, upholsterers, painters and expert hands in marquetry. Likewise, specialists in industrial design and childrens' furniture display their wares beside experts in paintings, tapestries and curios.
